Tuks Part Ways With Motaung

Motsepe Foundation Championship side University of Pretoria has parted ways with coach Tlisani Motaung, Sportswire has been informed.

Motaung had been with Tuks since October 2020, when he replaced Shaun Bartlett. The club had been expected to contend for promotion spots this past season, but they ultimately fell short.

The Pretoria club finished 10th in the Motsepe Foundation Championship table with 38 points from 30 matches. This placed them 10 points behind third-place finishers Casric Stars, who secured the final playoff spot.

There was an expectation that Tuks would improve upon their performance from the previous season, where they reached the playoffs but were defeated by Richards Bay, who subsequently retained their Betway Premiership status.

Unlike the previous season, when they reached the Nedbank Cup quarter-finals only to lose to Mamelodi Sundowns (who eventually reached the final and lost to Orlando Pirates), things deteriorated further for Tuks this past season.

Club management had hoped Motaung would push his team deep into the Nedbank Cup, a competition where they reached the final in 2009. However, they failed to even reach the Round of 32 this past season.

It is these disappointments that have reportedly infuriated club management, leading to the decision to part ways with Motaung.

At this stage, it is unclear who will take over, but Stan Nkoane, who successfully saved Venda FC from relegation in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, is reportedly a frontrunner for the position.
