UJ Derails Wits’ Unbeaten Run In Thrilling Varsity Football Encounter

The Varsity Football 2025 season continued to gain momentum with round three matches taking place on Thursday.

The highly anticipated Johannesburg Derby between Wits University and University of Johannesburg ended in a stunning 1-0 victory for UJ, handing Wits their first loss of the season.

This result saw Wits slip from first to third place with six points, while UJ rose to second place with seven points.

Tshwane University of Technology maintained its lead with seven points, courtesy of its 3-1 win over Central University of Technology. CUT remains at the bottom of the log without a single point.

Durban University of Technology continued to struggle, losing 2-1 to the University of the Free State at home. UFS now sits in fifth place with four points, while DUT remains in seventh position.

In the other match, North-West University and the University of Pretoria (UP-Tuks) played out a goalless draw, with NWU sitting in fourth place with five points and UP-Tuks in sixth place with six points.

Notably, UP-Tuks, CUT, and DUT are yet to register their first wins of the season.

The next round of matches promises to be exciting, with all teams set to take to the field next Thursday.
