Velebayi Reveals His Go-To Position On The Field

New Kaizer Chiefs recruit, Asanele Velebayi, the talented winger, has shared insights into his playing style, revealing his favorite position on the field.

Velebayi, who has been a free agent after a contract dispute with Cape Town Spurs, has revealed that although he is versatile and can play on the right wing and as a number 10, his heart belongs to the left wing.

“I can play on the right wing, and as a number 10 as well, but my favored position is wide on the left as a winger,” Velebayi said.

The young winger’s journey to Chiefs was not straightforward. The former Cape Town Spurs captain had a contract dispute with Cape Town Spurs, which was resolved by the Premier Soccer League’s Dispute Resolution Chamber (DRC) in his favor.

The disagreement started when the Urban Warriors were relegated from the Motsepe Foundation Championship to the Western Cape ABC Motsepe League, and Velebayi’s representatives argued that the drop to the amateur league allowed him to be a free agent.

The 22-year-old’s passion for football is evident in his enthusiasm about joining Amakhosi.

“I can’t even describe the feeling, ” he added.

“When I heard the news that I was officially joining Kaizer Chiefs, the first thing I did was to call my mother and family to share the good news.

“I was so happy. It has always been my dream to come here, and I aim to make the most of this amazing opportunity.”

Velebayi’s love for football started at a young age, and he has been working hard to develop his skills.

“I started playing football at a very young age, around seven or eight, following in the footsteps of my two brothers,” he revealed.

“My first team was in the township where I’m from, Phillipi. When I was 11, I joined Ajax Cape Town, which is now Cape Town Spurs, and I have been with them the whole time until now.”
