Williams Confident Sundowns Can Win The Champions League

Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams feels optimistic about winning this year’s CAF Champions League following their victory against Espérance Sportive de Tunis in the quarter-final on Tuesday.

Sundowns triumphed over Esperance 1-0 overall, scoring just one goal in the first leg at home and ending in a goalless draw in the second leg in Tunisia.

The Tshwane giants have advanced to the semifinals, where they’ll face the defending champions, Al Ahly, who defeated Al Hilal on a 2-0 aggregate score, with one goal scored at home and another away.

The Bafana Bafana captain is certain that this season is shaping up very well and that it might be their year.

“We knew they were going to come out. They were chasing the game, you know, and when we beat them at home, we changed the history of the club, you know, because we haven’t beaten them before,” said Williams.

When we beat them at home, I knew and had a feeling that this year was ours.”

Cardoso’s side will take on Al Ahly in the semifinals on 18 April, and the return leg with take place the following week.

If they advance to the final, they’ll face the winner of the Orlando Pirates and Pyramids match.

In the meantime, Sundowns will host Kaizer Chiefs in the Nedbank Cup semi final at Loftus Stadium on Sunday (18:00).
