Williams Signs New Deal With Sundowns
Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams has secured a contract extension that ties him to the club until 2028, with a one-year option to extend further.
Williams joined Sundowns from SuperSport United at the beginning of last season. Since his arrival, he has been instrumental in the team’s success, contributing to two league titles (including this season’s), the African Champions League trophy, and qualification for the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup.
“Mamelodi Sundowns is proud to announce that they have agreed on a 4-year contract extension with a one-year option that will see goalkeeper and Bafana Bafana Captain Ronwen Williams remain at Chloorkop until at least 2028,” the club announced in a statement.
Williams expressed his delight with the contract extension. “I’m over the moon, it just shows the belief that the club has in me, it shows the value that I’ve brought to the club. There is so much that we can achieve as a team & I’m looking forward to it with lots of excitement,” said Williams.
The Bafana Bafana captain was a key figure in the national team’s recent Africa Cup of Nations victory in February, held in Ivory Coast. His outstanding performance earned him the Goalkeeper of the Season award.
“It was an easy decision for me, I’ve been happy since day one,” added Williams.
“The club has helped me grow as a football player and as a person, so it was a no brainer for me (to extend).”
Since joining Sundowns, Williams has made a significant impact, featuring in 69 games across all competitions and keeping an impressive 50 clean sheets.
