“Write His Name In History”: Khune Urges Chiefs Target Phili To Make Soweto Move

Kaizer Chiefs legend Itumeleng Khune believes Stellenbosch FC winger Langelihle Phili has all the qualities needed to thrive at Amakhosi, saying his style of play is perfectly suited to the club.

Phili remains one of Chiefs’ reported transfer targets as the Soweto giants look to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The exciting 21-year-old enjoyed an impressive campaign last season, making 39 appearances across all competitions and scoring nine goals.

Khune praised the youngster’s talent, comparing his playing style to that of former Chiefs stars Jabu Mahlangu, Scara Ngobese, Kgaogelo Sekgota and Junior Khanye.

“Langelihle Phili reminds me of Jabu Mahlangu,” said Khune.

“He is the type of player who is not afraid to take defenders on using his ability. In one-on-one situations, he will take you to the cleaners. He reminds me of Sekgota, a player who never needed permission from anyone to take on an opponent and deliver a quality cross into the box.

“Kaizer Chiefs have always been known for producing great wingers. You’ve got Junior Khanye, Jabu Mahlangu and Scara Ngobese, and that is the profile that fits Langelihle Phili.

“I wish him all the best. Let him come to Kaizer Chiefs and write his name into the history books. He is a great talent and a great player. I know he will succeed at Kaizer Chiefs because the club gives players the platform, the opportunity and everything they need to perform at the highest level.”
