Zwane Wants More From Kambindu Despite Investment Payoff

AmaZulu coach Arthur Zwane acknowledged that the club’s investment in Elmo Kambindu was worthwhile, given his four goals since joining in the January transfer window. However, Zwane believes Kambindu should have scored more.

Kambindu’s fourth goal in nine matches came during Usuthu’s 2-1 loss to Galaxy in the Betway Premiership match at King Zwelithini Stadium on Friday.

The Namibian international’s signing was considered a surprise, as he had only scored five goals in 45 matches for Chippa over two and a half seasons.

“Kambindu, it is good that he is scoring goals, but by now he should have at least scored six or seven goals,” said Zwane, who was downbeat after the loss to Galaxy.

“So, for me, it is still not enough. But we are happy that he is scoring goals, but he should be scoring regularly because he gets into those goal scoring opportunities.

“You look at on Friday, there was a time where we had three-v-two, but we made a wrong decision.”

Zwane continued to lament the team’s poor decision-making during the Galaxy match, stating that they struggled to execute the right passes, which ultimately allowed the visitors to secure the win and move into third place in the Betway Premiership.

“It was simply poor decision-making. It’s not that we aren’t getting into the right areas at the right time; it’s the execution of those decisions,” he explained.

“There was a moment when Ethan Brooks could have passed to Tshepang Moremi, who was facing the goalkeeper with an open opportunity. Instead, they made a mistake. We needed just one accurate pass, but the ball went straight to the keeper – he overcooked it.

“I could cite similar instances from matches like the one against SuperSport United, where we had numerous turnovers. Unfortunately, we don’t have much time to dwell on these issues now, as we need to secure results with games coming thick and fast. We are dealing with season campaigners, and you expect them to make better decisions.”

Despite the loss, AmaZulu remains seventh in the table with 30 points after 23 matches. Depending on other results this weekend, they could drop out of the top eight.
