Chiefs Goalie Eyes Carling Cup Triumph

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Peterson sees the Carling Knockout round of 16 clash against SuperSport United as a crucial opportunity to end their trophy drought.

Chiefs haven’t lifted a major trophy since winning the MTN8 and Betway Premiership double in the 2014/15 season. They will face their former coach, Gavin Hunt, in the upcoming Carling Knockout match, less than two weeks away.

The two teams will meet twice before the end of October, with a league match also scheduled on the 26 October. Chiefs aim to improve on their last season’s performance in the cup competition, having been eliminated in the first round by AmaZulu. Their last Carling Knockout triumph came in the 2010/11 season.

Peterson, who joined Chiefs under Hunt’s tenure but never worked with him, acknowledges Hunt’s familiarity with the team.

“Their coach kind of knows ins and outs about us,” said Petersen, who was signed by Hunt to join Chiefs but never worked with him.

“We are looking forward to it and I think this is a start for us and the first trophy that is up for grabs.”

Chiefs have made a strong start to the 2024/25 Betway Premiership under new coach Nasreddine Nabi, winning their first two matches before a loss to Mamelodi Sundowns.

“We’ve started well,” added Petersen. “But we have a long way to go.”
