Zwane Expresses Gratitude To Chiefs

Arthur Zwane, the newly appointed co-coach of AmaZulu, has expressed his sincere gratitude to Kaizer Chiefs for allowing him to take on the Usuthu post, where he will share coaching duties with Vusi Vilakazi.

Zwane, a former Kaizer Chiefs player, DStv Diski Challenge coach, assistant, caretaker, and head coach, was officially announced as Usuthu’s co-coach on Tuesday.

This appointment comes after the dismissal of Pablo Franco Martin, following a disappointing start to the 2024/25 Betway Premiership season, with Usuthu losing all three league matches and finding themselves at the bottom of the table.

In a statement on the Kaizer Chiefs website, Zwane said, “I would definitely like to extend my deepest gratitude to Dr. Motaung for the unwavering support, guidance and love throughout my Chiefs career as a player and a coach.

“His belief in me has allowed me to grow from a player to a development coach and ultimately to the head coach. I am truly thankful for the opportunities the club has provided which have shaped not just my career but my life. So, thank you to Kaizer Chiefs and thank you to the chairman.”

Zwane began his career with Amakhosi as a player in 2000, retiring in 2010 after 252 appearances and contributing to the team’s 12 trophies. He subsequently served as an assistant coach under Vladimir Vermezovic until 2012 before transitioning to the club’s development structures, where he played a crucial role in developing some of South Africa’s top football talent.

Zwane returned to the senior team in 2020 as an assistant coach, collaborating with experienced coaches Gavin Hunt, Stuart Baxter, and Molefi Ntseki. He led the first team as head coach for one season, 2022/23 season, starting in June 2022 in the Premiership.

He will always be remembered for taking Chiefs to the CAF Champions League final in the 2020/21 season, following the sacking of Hunt. However, Chiefs opted to replace him with Baxter, who ultimately lost the final to Pitso Mosimane’s Al Ahly.

In their statement, Kaizer Chiefs thanked Zwane for his 24 years of service to the club and extended their best wishes as he embarks on this exciting new chapter with Usuthu.

Zwane and Vilakazi’s first match together will be against MTN8 losing finalists Stellenbosch FC in the Carling Knockout Cup round of 16 at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in less than two weeks.
