Pirates-Gallants Clash Postponed Due To Fixture Congestion

Orlando Pirates’ Betway Premiership match against Marumo Gallants, scheduled for early next month, has been postponed.

The game was set to take place on 3 December at Toyota Stadium, but due to a tight fixture schedule, it will not go ahead. This is because it falls just 48 hours before their match against Stellenbosch FC on 1 December at Orlando Stadium.

FIFA regulations require a 72-hour gap between matches, causing the Gallants game to be postponed. The Premier Soccer League (PSL) will announce a new date for this fixture in due course.

This postponement could be a significant boost for Pirates as they prepare to host Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League next Saturday.

Currently, Pirates are leading the Betway Premiership with 21 points from seven matches, three points ahead of Mamelodi Sundowns. Both teams are competing in the CAF Champions League group stage. While Sundowns drew their opening match against AS Maniema Union, Pirates secured a 2-1 victory over CR Belouizdad in Algeria.

This away win was Pirates’ first in the Champions League group stage since their 3-0 victory over Al Ahly in 2013. That season, Pirates reached the final but ultimately lost to the Egyptian giants.
