Esquivel Returns On Loan To Sundowns

Mamelodi Sundowns has announced the return of Argentine attacker Matías Esquivel on loan from Argentinian side CA Talleres.

Esquivel, who Sundowns initially signed from the same club during the January transfer window last year, was loaned back in the first half of the current season after struggling to make an impact in the latter part of the previous season.

Upon his initial arrival in the second half of last season, he contributed to Sundowns’ league title win before they lost the final game of the season to Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup final. He even scored when Sundowns hammered Kaizer Chiefs 5-1 to win the league title with few games to spare.

Esquivel follows his Talleres teammate, defender Lucas Suarez, to Sundowns, who recently signed Suarez from the Argentinian club in this January transfer window.

Esquivel will be like a new signing for Sundowns at this point in the season under coach Miguel Cardoso. Sundowns have also signed Jayden Adams from Stellenbosch and Keanu Cupido from Cape Town City during this January transfer window.

Sundowns, currently leading the Betway Premiership table with 33 points after 12 matches, three points clear of second-placed Pirates, will host Golden Arrows in a league match at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Sunday at 17:45.
