Amajita Get Their First Win In CAF

Amajita secured their first victory in the AFCON U20 championship with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Tanzania at the Suez Canal Stadium on Wednesday evening.

The match was intense, with both teams creating scoring opportunities in the opening minutes.

In the first 10 minutes, Amajita started strong, with Langelihle Phili hitting the post with a great shot that was well saved by the Tanzanian goalkeeper.

However, Tanzania soon pulled up their socks, dominating possession and almost scoring twice, but Amajita’s defense held firm.

The breakthrough came in the 28th minute when Tanzania goalkeeper Ismail Bomboma’s wrong pass found Mogamat Abrahams, who combined well with Shakeel April to score the decisive goal.

Notably, Abrahams and April, who didn’t start the first game against Egypt, made a significant impact, replacing Mfundo Vilakazi and Kutlwano Letlhaku.

After the goal, both teams continued to create chances, but neither managed to score in the first half, which ended 1-0 in favor of Amajita.

The South African side came out stronger in the second half, creating several opportunities, but Tanzania’s defense held firm.

In the 61st minute, Tanzania’s Said Said, who came in as a substitute, hit the post with a great shot. Soon after, Amajita coach Raymond Mdaka introduced Vilakazi, Letlhaku, and Thabang Mahlangu, resting Abrahams, Phili, and Jody Ahshene.

Just two minutes after the substitutions, the referee awarded Tanzania a penalty, but VAR intervened, and the decision was overturned.

Amajita continued to push for a second goal but couldn’t manage to score. Tanzania, however, almost equalized in the 85th minute, but goalkeeper Fletcher Lowe made two impressive double saves to deny them.

The win puts Amajita in second place in Group A with three points, level with log leaders Egypt, who also have three points. Egypt still has to play their match against Sierra Leone at 20:00 in the same venue.

Amajita’s next challenge will be against Sierra Leone at the Suez Canal Stadium, a match that promises to be intense and crucial for their tournament progression.

The victory is a significant boost for Amajita, and the team’s performance showcased their determination and skill.

With the upcoming match against Sierra Leone, Amajita will look to build on their momentum and make a strong statement in the tournament.
