“A Lot Of Guts!” — Gabriel Reacts As Bay Stun TS Galaxy

Richards Bay co-coach Ronnie Gabriel has lauded his squad’s resilience following a “massive” 1-0 victory over TS Galaxy on Sunday.

A first-half strike from Sanele Barns was enough to secure all three points at the Mbombela Stadium, propelling the KwaZulu-Natal outfit to 10th in the Betway Premiership standings.

The Natal Rich Boyz now sit on 30 points after 25 matches.

How Did Richards Bay Secure the Three Points?

Speaking to SuperSport TV post-match, Gabriel emphasized that the win was built on sheer determination rather than just tactical flair.

“It required a lot of guts and determination,” Gabriel admitted.

“We faced a very enterprising TS Galaxy team. Playing at home, they threw everything at us, even finishing the game with three strikers.”

Gabriel acknowledged that while his side allowed Galaxy several early opportunities, the 1-0 halftime lead provided the platform they needed to dig in.

A Test of Composure in Mbombela

The second half saw Bay shift to a “contain and counter” strategy. While Gabriel was pleased with the defensive shift, he noted that the margin of victory could have been wider.

“In the second half, it was about containing them and playing for the right moments,” Gabriel explained. “I felt we could have found a second goal if we had been more composed in the final third on the break.”

Despite the missed chances to double the lead, Gabriel insists the result is a season-defining moment for his young roster. “To come all the way to Mbombela and take three points will do wonders for this team’s confidence.”

What’s Next for the Natal Rich Boyz?

The victory provides the perfect momentum for a massive home fixture.

Richards Bay will host CAF Champions League finalists Mamelodi Sundowns this coming Sunday.

The clash is set to take place at an already sold-out Umhlathuze Sports Complex, where the KZN side will look to play giant-killer once again.
