Mdaka Praises Amajita’s Character After Hard-Fought Win Over Tanzania

Amajita coach Raymond Mdaka hailed his team’s character and determination after securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Tanzania in the AFCON U20 on Wednesday.
The win marked Amajita’s first triumph in the tournament, following a loss to host nation Egypt in their opening match on Sunday.
“It was a difficult game, and it was something we expected,” Mdaka said, acknowledging Tanzania’s physicality and direct style of play.
“Tanzania is a good team; they play to their strengths because they are physically strong. They played with long balls and didn’t give us time to play the ball on the ground.”
Mdaka attributed Amajita’s success to the players’ ability to maintain their focus and composure after scoring the goal. “Beyond tactics, you need to understand that the players need character, and our players did well because we were able to stay focused after scoring the goal.”
Shakeel April’s first-half strike proved to be the difference-maker, and Mdaka emphasized the importance of building on this momentum. “We know it’s not going to be easy in the next games, but we’re going to work hard to get the results. Whatever we get, we’ll stay focused on that.”
The win has boosted Amajita’s confidence, and Mdaka believes it will serve as a big motivation for the team moving forward.
“About today’s results, I think it’s good results for the boys, and it’s a big motivation after losing the first game. I think we’ll take it from there ahead of the next games coming.”
With three points from their win, Amajita currently sit in third place in Group A.
Their next challenge will be against log leaders Sierra Leone, who thrashed Egypt 4-1 on Wednesday. The match, scheduled for Tuesday at the Suez Canal Stadium, promises to be a tough test for Amajita.
