Nabi Confirms Meeting With Motaung To Strengthen Squad

In an effort to improve the squad for next season, Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has confirmed that he met with club supremo Kaizer Motaung on Friday to discuss strengthening the team by entering the transfer market.

The Tunisian coach has made it clear that everyone within the club understands what needs to happen to improve the side. This comes after Chiefs, for the second consecutive season, failed to finish in the top eight, drawing goalless with Polokwane City at FNB Stadium on Saturday.

Chiefs will likely finish ninth in the table with 32 points after 28 matches, but could drop to 10th place if Golden Arrows beat SuperSport United by a significant margin in the second half replay of their abandoned match, which is set to take place in the coming days.

The Durban-based side beat Sekhukhune United 3-2 at the Princess Magogo Stadium on Saturday, moving up to 12th place with 30 points from 27 matches.

“On Friday, we had an exchange with the chairman, and everyone knows exactly what needs to be done,” Nabi stated after the game. “I would not say how many and which kind of players we need, but the recruitment department is working hard. Everyone knows the team’s needs, and contact has already begun. We hope that once we get what we need, we are sure the team is going to improve a lot.”

Nabi was brought in to rectify the damage from last season, when the club finished at their lowest ever position in PSL history – 10th place – under the tutelage of Molefi Ntseki and Cavin Johnson.

Whether Chiefs like it or not, they will be compelled to invest significantly in the transfer market to bolster their squad, as they qualified for the CAF Confederation Cup after winning the Nedbank Cup trophy two weeks ago against Orlando Pirates in Durban.
