Polokwane Sign Two Players As Appollis Is Undecided

With the PSL transfer window now officially open, Polokwane City has wasted no time in strengthening their squad, securing the signings of Mpho Mvundlela and Seketso Moremi.

This marks the second time in three seasons that Polokwane City, affectionately known as Rise and Shine, has acquired players from Callies. Ahead of the 2023/24 season, following their promotion to the Betway Premiership, they signed Oswin Appollis, Nyakala Raphadu, and Tlou Nkwe from the same club.

Under the leadership of coach Phuthi Mohafe, Polokwane City finished an impressive seventh in the Betway Premiership last season. They are set to face Orlando Pirates away in the MTN8 quarter-finals next season.

Given their acquisition of 15 players at the beginning of last season, it’s highly anticipated that the Limpopo-based club will continue to be active in the transfer market, with more new arrivals expected.

However, the future of Bafana Bafana star attacker Oswin Appollis remains a significant point of speculation. Appollis garnered considerable attention last season, with strong links to the PSL’s “big three”: Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs, and Mamelodi Sundowns. There was also interest from clubs in North Africa, though no move ultimately materialized.

Despite the intense speculation, Appollis has continued to perform consistently on the field. His impressive displays have solidified his reputation as one of the PSL’s top attacking talents, ensuring that interest in him is unlikely to wane.

Appollis, whose contract is set to expire in June 2026, has made 59 appearances for Polokwane City, scoring nine goals and providing six assists.
