Keet On His Way To Reunite With Hunt

Veteran goalkeeper Darren Keet is set to join Durban City, Sportswire has learned. He is expected to arrive at King Shaka International Airport on Sunday.

Keet recently departed Cape Town City after the Mother City club was relegated at the end of last season via the PSL Relegation Playoffs.

A Reunion with Coach Gavin Hunt

If Keet completes his move to Durban City, he will be reunited with his former coach, Gavin Hunt, who was appointed as City’s coach just days ago. Hunt previously coached Keet at Bidvest Wits.

Together, Keet and Hunt enjoyed a successful spell at Bidvest Wits, winning the league title and the MTN8 in the 2016/17 season, completing a memorable double. Keet’s stellar performance that season earned him the Goalkeeper of the Season award.

The following season, they again helped Wits secure silverware, triumphing in the Carling Knockout trophy against Bloemfontein Celtic in Durban. These remain the only trophies Keet has won in his career.

Keet’s Time at Cape Town City

Keet joined Cape Town City in July 2021 from KV Kortrijk in Belgium. During his tenure with the Mother City club, Keet made 104 appearances and impressively kept 40 clean sheets. In his first season, they reached the MTN8 final but lost to Mamelodi Sundowns on penalties at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Durban City’s Squad Reinforcement

Durban City is actively strengthening its squad after winning the Motsepe Foundation Championship last season and securing promotion to the PSL top-flight. This achievement came under the guidance of coach Simo Dladla. However, Dladla has since left the club to join AmaZulu as an assistant coach, leading to Hunt’s appointment.

Potential Departure for Gamildien

Meanwhile, there are rumors that Durban City might part ways with veteran striker Ruzaigh Gamildien. Gamildien was instrumental in City’s promotion push, scoring the winning goal against relegated Cape Town Spurs in the final game of the campaign, which secured the club’s top-flight status.
