Costa, Makgalwa, And Mofokeng Up For Footballer Of The Season

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has unveiled the nominees for the 2024/25 PSL Awards. The prestigious ceremony is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, 29 July, and will be broadcast live on SuperSport PSL Channel and SABC Sport.
Top Honors in the Betway Premiership
The highly anticipated Footballer of the Season award will see a strong contest between Keletso Makgalwa (Sekhukhune United), Relebohile Mofokeng (Orlando Pirates), and Lucas Ribeiro Costa (Mamelodi Sundowns). All three standout players have also secured nominations for the Betway Premiership Players’ Player of the Season award, a testament to their consistent performance and significant impact throughout the 2024/25 campaign.
For the Betway Premiership Coach of the Season, the nominees are Steve Barker (Stellenbosch FC), Miguel Cardoso (Mamelodi Sundowns), and Jose Riveiro (Orlando Pirates). The Betway Premiership Young Player of the Season shortlist features Malibongwe Khoza (Mamelodi Sundowns), along with Orlando Pirates’ talents Relebohile Mofokeng and Mohau Nkota.
New Categories for the Motsepe Foundation Championship
This year’s awards introduce three new categories for the Motsepe Foundation Championship, recognizing the league’s growing talent.
- Players’ Player of the Season nominees are Banele Hlophe (JDR Stars), Joslin Kamatuka (Durban City FC), and Muzomuhle Khanyi (Hungry Lions).
- For Young Player of the Season, the shortlisted players are Luke Baartman (Cape Town Spurs), Teboho Lekhatla (Casric Stars), and Siphamandla Mhlongo (Milford FC).
- The Goalkeeper of the Season nominees include Emile Lako (Casric Stars), Sekhoane Moerane (Orbit College), and Dumsani Msibi (Durban City FC).
Cup Competition and Diski Challenge Recognitions
In the MTN8 Last Man Standing category, the nominees are Fawaaz Basadien (Stellenbosch FC), Deon Hotto, and Relebohile Mofokeng (both Orlando Pirates). The Carling Knockout Player of the Tournament features Magesi FC duo Elvis Chipezeze and Edmore Chirambadare, alongside Mamelodi Sundowns’ Iqraam Rayners.
The Nedbank Cup Player of the Tournament nominees are exclusively from Kaizer Chiefs: Inacio Miguel, Pule Mmodi, and Gaston Sirino. Meanwhile, the Nedbank Cup Most Promising Player category is dominated by Orlando Pirates, with nominations for Mbekezeli Mbokazi, Relebohile Mofokeng, and Mohau Nkota.
Lastly, the DStv Diski Challenge Player of the Season nominees are Gomolemo Kekana (Mamelodi Sundowns), Ntandoyenkosi Nkosi (Kaizer Chiefs), and Tylon Smith (Stellenbosch FC).

Voting and Nomination Procedures:
The selection process for the PSL Awards follows strict guidelines to ensure fairness and credibility across various categories:
- Footballer of the Season: Premier Division head coaches exclusively conduct nominations and voting. Coaches are prohibited from nominating or voting for players from their own teams.
- Betway Premiership Players’ Player of the Season: Nominations and voting are carried out solely by Betway Premiership players. Each club is allocated a maximum of 30 votes, with the stipulation that no player can nominate or vote for a teammate.
- Motsepe Foundation Players’ Player of the Season: Similar to the Premiership, nominations and voting are exclusive to Motsepe Foundation Championship players. Each club is allowed a maximum of 30 votes, and players cannot nominate or vote for their own teammates.
- DStv Diski Challenge Player of the Season: Diski Challenge head coaches are solely responsible for nominations and voting. Coaches are not permitted to nominate or vote for players from their own teams.
- Match Officials: Nominations and voting for match officials are conducted exclusively by the SAFA National Referees Committee Panel.
- All Other Categories: Nominations and voting for these categories are undertaken by judging panels comprising football journalists, broadcasters, analysts, and commentators. A comprehensive list of the judging panel members will be publicly disclosed following the PSL Awards ceremony.
