PSV Table R100 Million Offer For Mofokeng

Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven have reportedly tabled a mouth-watering offer for Orlando Pirates star Relebohile Mofokeng.

According to the Durban-based Ilanga newspaper, which has close ties with the Pirates, Eindhoven is believed to have made a R100 million offer for the Bafana Bafana international.

Sportswire has learned that both parties are still in talks, and the deal is yet to be concluded.

PSV Eindhoven is one of the biggest clubs in the Netherlands, having won the league title 26 times, including last season under Peter Bosz.

They also secured the UEFA Champions League title in the 1987/1988 season under former Chelsea coach Guus Hiddink, and the UEFA Cup in the 1977/1978 season.

Although they won the league title last season, they were unfortunately eliminated by Arsenal in the Champions League Round of 16. However, they will return to the elite competition this coming season as a result of their league triumph.

If Mofokeng’s move comes to fruition, it would be an ideal opportunity for the Bafana Bafana international to showcase his talent in possibly the biggest club football competition in the world, within one of Europe’s top leagues.

His father, Sechaba Mofokeng, a former professional footballer, previously expressed his wish to Sportswire for his son to play in the Dutch league before moving to one of Europe’s top five leagues.

The Dutch interest in Mofokeng follows another stellar season with Pirates, where he scored 12 goals and provided 15 assists in 49 matches. Two of those goals came against league champions Mamelodi Sundowns in a match where the Soweto giants started strongly.

On the back of his impressive performance, the 20-year-old is a contender for the PSL Footballer of the Season, having been nominated on Tuesday. Mofokeng, who scored in Pirates’ MTN8 final victory against Stellenbosch last October and also in the CAF Champions League semi-final loss to Pyramids, is also nominated for the Betway Premiership Player’s Player of the Season.

Furthermore, he is nominated for Young Player of the Season, an award he won last term, as well as the MTN8 Last Man Standing and Nedbank Cup Most Promising Player of the Tournament.

Should Mofokeng depart Pirates for the Dutch giants, it would mean the club has lost two of its best young talents this past season, following the sale of Mohau Nkota to Saudi Arabian side Al-Ettifaq on Sunday.

  • Orlando Pirates Football Club has taken note of the article published by SoccerLaduma.com on Tuesday, 16 July 2025, titled: R120m For Mofokeng? How PSV’s Linked To Pirates Sensation.

We wish to place it on record that no such offer has been received by the Club. The claims made in the article are not only false but also irresponsible and damaging. As a publication with a long-standing history in South African football, Soccer Laduma is expected to uphold the highest standards of journalism rooted in fact, accuracy, and responsibility. Unfortunately, in this instance, they have chosen sensationalism over truth.

This type of reporting is not only misleading to the public but also serves as an unnecessary distraction aimed at unsettling both the player and the Club at a critical juncture in our preparations for the upcoming season.

Orlando Pirates remains committed to the well-being of our players and will continue to act in their best interests. We call upon all media outlets to refrain from publishing unverified reports that seek to create instability for the sake of clicks.
