UJ Tops The Log As CUT Finds First Win, DUT Still Struggling

The fourth round of the Varsity Football 2025 brought thrilling action on Thursday, with teams battling it out on the pitch in a bid to climb the log standings.

Three victories and one draw were recorded, accompanied by seven goals scored. The University of Johannesburg (UJ) secured a 1-0 win over the University of Pretoria (UP-Tuks) at home, propelling them to the top of the log with 10 points.

UP-Tuks, on the other hand, remain in sixth position with three points.

In another match, the Central University of Technology (CUT) bounced back with its first victory of the season, beating the struggling Durban University of Technology (DUT) 2-1.

Despite the win, CUT still occupies seventh position with three points, while DUT remains at the bottom of the log with only one point.

Wits University played out a 1-1 draw against Tshwane University of Technology (TUT). The result saw Wits remain in third position with seven points, while TUT dropped from first to second place with eight points.

In the final match of the round, the University of the Free State (UFS) secured a 1-0 win over North-West University (NWU). UFS moved up to fourth position with seven points, while NWU slipped to fifth place with five points.

The Varsity Football will resume next Thursday with round five, featuring matches that promise to be just as thrilling.

NWU will visit TUT in Pretoria, while DUT will face off against log leaders UJ at UJ Soweto Stadium.

UP-Tuks will look to secure their first win of the season when they host Wits University at Tuks Stadium. In the final match of the day, UFS will take on CUT, with both teams seeking to build on their recent wins.
