Mayo Calls Chiefs Move A ‘Dream Come True’
Kaizer Chiefs’ new signing, Khanyisa Mayo, has described joining the club as a dream come true.
Mayo, who the Amakhosi signed last week, finally arrived at Naturena on Friday after his move from Algerian side CR Belouizdad. The former Cape Town City striker’s father, Patrick Mayo, played for Chiefs and won the league title twice.
Mayo said Chiefs was the only club he would play for in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) once he was done playing abroad.
“It’s a dream come true,” said Mayo. “The only team I would come back for is Kaizer Chiefs. The club has a great history. My father is part of that great history, so I wanted to play for the biggest team in the country, in Africa, and in the world, I can say, because Kaizer Chiefs is the biggest team in the world to me.”
Mayo, who will wear jersey number 3, joins Chiefs after the team had a long-standing interest in the striker, having attempted to sign him before his move to Algeria. Mayo joins a Chiefs side that has been highly active in the transfer market and is currently second in the league table with 13 points from five matches.
The former Richards Bay striker, if all his documentation is in order, is likely to face Sekhukhune United in a top-of-the-table clash at FNB Stadium on Tuesday.
