Barker Hopes To Resolve Moloisane’s Contract Amid Pirates Link

Stellenbosch coach Steve Barker is pushing to finalize a new contract for key defender Thabo Moloisane as his current deal nears its end.

Moloisane, who has become a standout performer for the club, has been a subject of intense transfer speculation, with Orlando Pirates reportedly leading the race for his signature.

A Star Player’s Busy Schedule

Barker admitted that a resolution to the contract issue has been delayed due to the player’s packed schedule. Moloisane’s recent involvement with the Bafana Bafana squad for the FIFA World Cup qualifiers and Stellenbosch’s deep run in the MTN8 tournament has made finding a suitable time for negotiations difficult.

Speaking after Stellenbosch’s recent loss to AmaZulu at Princess Magogo Stadium on Wednesday, Barker emphasized the club’s desire to keep the defender.

“He has been a key player for us,” Barker stated. “It has just been difficult to find calmness in the season. Hopefully, in our next window, we can find a way to sort it out. I would love him to stay with the team going forward.”

Moloisane’s Impact at Stellies

Since joining from Maritzburg United at the start of the 2023/24 season, the 26-year-old has been a cornerstone of the Stellenbosch defense. Moloisane played a crucial role in the team’s historic Carling Knockout Cup victory in the 2023/24 season and has featured in 92 matches across all competitions, contributing four goals and three assists.

There is concern among Stellenbosch supporters that Moloisane might follow a similar path to former teammate Sihle Nduli, who joined Orlando Pirates as a free agent after his contract expired.
