Bafana Rise To Its Best FIFA Ranking In A Decade

Bafana Bafana has achieved its highest FIFA World Ranking in over 10 years, reflecting a significant climb in the global standings.

The team has moved up one spot to 55th in the world from 56th, a direct result of their impressive recent performances.

Why Bafana’s Ranking Is Rising

This improvement follows a busy and successful period for Bafana Bafana, which saw them play five matches in recent weeks, including crucial FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Key results include a convincing 3-0 win against Lesotho and a hard-fought 1-1 draw with Nigeria.

This current ranking is the team’s best since 2014 when they were 52nd. The recent positive results show the team’s momentum and potential to rise even further.

World Cup Qualification within Reach

Bafana Bafana is now focused on securing a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be held in Canada, Mexico, and the United States. They have two final, must-win qualifiers next month. A single victory in either of these matches will be enough to guarantee their spot in the tournament.

Under the current African qualifying format, only the group winners automatically qualify for the World Cup. The four best runners-up across all groups will get a second chance to qualify through a playoff round.

The next FIFA World Rankings will be released on 23 October. If Bafana Bafana succeeds in qualifying for the World Cup, they are expected to see another substantial jump in their global ranking.
