Sundowns Announce Second Major Signing

Mamelodi Sundowns have announced their second signing of the January transfer window, confirming the expected arrival of Brayan León from Independiente Medellín in Colombia.

The 25-year-old, who was born in Turbaco, Colombia, is a natural centre-forward. He scored 33 goals in 118 appearances for Medellín, while also providing 17 assists.

León, who Sundowns are rumoured to have paid over R50 million, becomes the second player to join Sundowns during this transfer window, following the signing of Monnapule Saleng from Orlando Pirates, which was confirmed on Friday.

Sundowns are strengthening their squad after an underwhelming first half of the season, during which they missed out on the MTN8 and Carling Knockout trophies—both of which were won by Orlando Pirates.

Pirates, who have finished as runners-up in each of the past three seasons, currently sit top of the Betway Premiership standings with 28 points from 12 matches, two points clear of Sundowns, who have played one game more.

Both Saleng and León will be hoping to make their debuts when Sundowns resume their league campaign by hosting Orbit College at Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium on 19 January.
