Mofokeng Laments Missed Chances Against Sekhukhune

Orlando Pirates attacker Relebohile Mofokeng believes luck was not on his side after the Buccaneers were held to a 0-0 draw by Sekhukhune United in a Betway Premiership clash on Saturday.

The result means Pirates will end this season without a win against Sekhukhune in the league, having suffered a 1-0 defeat in the reverse fixture at Orlando Stadium earlier in August.

Despite dominating large spells of the match, the stalemate saw the Soweto giants miss an opportunity to go top of the Betway Premiership table.

Pirates remain second with 29 points from 14 matches, level on points with Mamelodi Sundowns, who sit top having played one game more.

“I think if it’s not your day, it’s not your day,” said Mofokeng in the Orlando Pirates media department.

“We missed so many chances. As I was sitting there seeing my teammates missing so many chances, I just said today [Saturday] is not our day.

“But I came on, I tried to make chances, created many chances, but the goalkeeper [Renaldo Leaner] saved many chances. So I think we did our best. For the start of our game, I think we did very well.”

The 21-year-old further called out their fans to come support them for the remainder of the season.

“We need our supporters because the second part of the season is important for us to stay number one,” Mofokeng added.

“I think we need them because they are the ones who motivate us and keep us going, so I think we need them in numbers, and I think we’ll make them happy in the upcoming games.”

Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou’s side will return to action on Saturday at 18:00, when they host bottom-placed Magesi at Orlando Stadium.
