Parker On Durban City Clash And Relegation Battle

TS Galaxy interim coach Bernard Parker is confident he can deliver for the club by helping them climb away from the bottom of the league and win the Nedbank Cup.
Galaxy are currently struggling in the Betway Premiership, sitting on 26 points after 26 matches. However, they have an opportunity to turn their season around when they face Durban City in the Nedbank Cup final on Saturday at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium.
Parker was appointed just last week, only days before the final, giving him very little time to prepare the team after taking over from Adnan Beganovic, who guided Galaxy to the showpiece.
Parker said the chairman’s trust in him has boosted his belief, and he remains optimistic that he has what it takes to win the cup and steer the team away from the bottom of the standings.
“Our chairman, Tim Sukazi, has been a great servant of the game. He is very experienced, and his decision to put me in this position shows belief in me and how far I have come,” said Parker.
“I also believe that what you give to the game, the game gives back to you. I am following the right steps and making the right moves in terms of growth. I gave so much to the game as a player, and when I became a coach, I was given an opportunity to lead the DDC team. I immediately made an impact there and helped promote several players to the first team, as TS Galaxy is a club that develops and sells talented young stars.
“When I joined the first team, I was able to reconnect with the dressing room. I assisted the previous coaches, and the model has been working in terms of improving players and helping them reach their best level.
“At the same time, we have been competing and performing in the domestic league. When I was asked to take over for the remainder of the season, at such a crucial stage, it was not easy. Teams are fighting for the championship, for top-eight places, and for survival.
“Now we are also fighting to lift the cup at the peak of the season. With the trust shown in me, I believe I have what it takes to move Galaxy away from the bottom and to lead the club into Saturday’s final.”
