Veteran Defender Signs New Sekhukhune Deal

Sekhukhune United have confirmed that veteran defender Daniel Cardoso has signed a contract extension with the club.

Cardoso had reportedly been expected to leave after his previous deal expired last month.

However, the experienced centre-back will remain at Babina Noko after agreeing to a new contract as the club begins a new chapter under recently appointed head coach Cedric Kaze.

Kaze was appointed to replace Eric Tinkler, who was dismissed towards the end of last season.

“Sekhukhune United Football Club is delighted to announce that veteran defender Daniel Cardoso has extended his contract with the club,” Sekhukhune said in a statement.

The 36-year-old, who also holds Portuguese citizenship, joined Sekhukhune ahead of the 2022/23 season after leaving Kaizer Chiefs.

The former Free State Stars defender has since made 126 appearances in all competitions for Babina Noko, scoring three goals.

“Since joining Babina Noko in the 2022/23 season, Cardoso has been a pillar of leadership, professionalism and consistency, making a significant contribution both on and off the field,” the statement continued.

“His experience, commitment and winning mentality continue to play an important role within the squad.”
