Al Ahly To Offer Tau New Deal – Reports

Egyptian giants Al Ahly have reportedly come to a new stance on the future of Bafana Bafana forward Percy Tau, who’s facing an uncertain future at the club.
Tau, who signed for the 44-time Egyptian champions from Brighton Hove & Albion in August 2021, has been subject to transfer speculations linking him with a move away from the Cairo international stadium.
This comes after swirling rumors of a rift between the Witbank-born left-footed attacker and head coach Marcel Koller, which was fueled by Tau’s lack of minutes in the 2023/24 season, with the Bafana international earning cameos from the bench.
Furthermore, Tau’s reduced role within the Red Devils’ squad last campaign was also a result of two separate spells on the sidelines, with the 30-year-old enduring an injury-ridden season where he missed 11 games over 38 days.
The constant uncertainty over his future saw him being snubbed from Hugo Broos’ squad for the AFCON qualifiers clashes against Uganda and South Sudan earlier this month, with the Belgian mentor stating that Tau is not in the right state of mind to participate.
However, in a twist of events, Koller included the CAF men’s interclub player of the year in his 2024/25 CAF Champions League squad, after it was widely reported that he won’t be part of the Swiss tactician’s plans for the new season. The Mamelodi Sundowns youth graduate repaid the faith shown in him with a brace in a 3-0 win over Kenyan champions Gor Mahia in the first leg of their CAF Champions League second preliminary round tie.
Now, with Tau seemingly finding his feet on the back of a difficult campaign, a report from an Arabic outlet Al-Watan newspaper claims that Al Ahly have changed their stance on the potential departure of the player with their transfer window closing on 30 September.
The decision comes after the club didn’t receive any suitable offers they deemed suitable for the player, rejecting all with the latest one from Saudi club NEOM.
In addition, Tau insisted on obtaining his full compensation should Al Ahly terminate his contract. The reigning and record 12-time African champions are believed to be open to offering the forward, who won 10 trophies with the club including two CAF Champions League titles, fresh terms on his current contract which is set to expire at the end of the current season.
Tau will be hoping to add an 11th trophy with the Egyptian champions when Al Ahly lock horns against Zamalek in the CAF Super Cup final at Kingdom Arena stadium in Saudi Arabia, Riyadh, on 27 September (20:00).
