AmaZulu Now Eye Arthur Zwane
AmaZulu’s search for a new coach has taken another turn.
Magesi coach Clinton Larsen is no longer in contention for the Usuthu position. Instead, Arthur Zwane is now the leading candidate to become AmaZulu’s co-coach alongside Vusi Vilakazi.
AmaZulu initially considered Ernst Middendorp and Benni McCarthy but faced rejection. They then pursued Larsen, but internal disagreements led to the talks falling through.
AmaZulu approached Middendorp again, but he requested to bring his own technical team, which would have meant Vilakazi remaining as DDC coach.
Now, the club has turned on appointing Zwane and Vilakazi as the coaching duo.
Zwane’s potential move to AmaZulu would be significant, given his long association with Chiefs. He has held various roles at the club – first being the player, DDC coach, assistant coach, caretaker coach, and head coach.
Zwane led Chiefs to the CAF Champions League final in 2021, becoming the first South African team to defeat Wydad Casablanca in Morocco.
If appointed, Zwane and Vilakazi will take over an AmaZulu side that has lost all three league matches and sits at the bottom of the Betway Premiership table, which led to the sacking of coach Martin along with his assistant Aitor Van Der Brule.
