Arrows Score Five To Thump SuperSport In Diski Challenge

Golden Arrows staged a stunning comeback, overturning a two-goal deficit to defeat SuperSport United 5-3 in a DStv Diski Challenge match at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium on Saturday.

Siviwe Magidigidi scored two first-half goals for SuperSport, giving them a comfortable lead. However, they faltered in the second half.

Kwanda Shezi initiated Arrows’ comeback, pulling one goal back, and Sifundo Shezi equalized shortly after, making it 2-2.

Sifundo Shezi then headed home to give Arrows a 3-2 lead, completing their remarkable turnaround, with all of their goals coming in the second half.

SuperSport appeared shell-shocked and faced an uphill battle to recover.

Shezi completed his hat-trick in the 84th minute, finishing off a swift counter-attack.

He then added his fourth goal in the 89th minute, capitalizing on SuperSport’s high defensive line to seal an astonishing victory for Arrows.

This defeat effectively eliminates SuperSport, the 2022/23 champions, from contention for this season’s DStv Diski Challenge title.

Earlier in the day, at the same venue, Stellenbosch rallied to beat Richards Bay 3-2, briefly taking the top spot in the standings.

However, their position at the summit may only last 24 hours, as Kaizer Chiefs, the previous leaders, could reclaim their place with a win over TS Galaxy on Sunday.

Ntlomelo Bomelo scored twice in the first half for Richards Bay, first with a close-range volley after a defensive lapse by Stellenbosch, and then by capitalizing on a misplaced pass from Stellenbosch’s defense.

This unexpected turn of events left Stellenbosch trailing, one point behind league leaders Kaizer Chiefs. Chiefs have had an impressive season, losing only two games. They are considered favorites to win their first DStv Diski Challenge title in 10 years.

At the start of the second half, Stellenbosch, the defending champions, pulled a goal back through Keanan Johannesen. On the hour mark, Tylon Smith headed in an equalizer from a corner kick.

Stellenbosch applied late pressure, and Sbangani Zulu’s own goal secured a 3-2 victory for the Cape Winelands side, temporarily placing them at the top of the table.
