Bafana Gearing Up For Crucial Clash Against Zimbabwe
Bafana Bafana goalkeeper and captain Ronwen Williams is confident about his team’s momentum as they gear up for their clash against Zimbabwe at the Free State Stadium (6:00 PM).
The South African national team is looking to capitalize on their recent strong performance, where they held group favorites Nigeria to a 1-1 draw at Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Friday.
“We are looking forward to the Zimbabwe game. We know they are coming from a defeat so they are going to change things around, but we will be playing at home, we got a wonderful welcome here in Bloemfontein, you can see the excitement in the fans, you can see the happiness in the players as well,” he said.
The draw against Nigeria, where Bafana Bafana capitalized on transitions to secure a crucial point, ensured they remained above the Super Eagles in the group standings.
South Africa’s morale was further boosted by Nigeria’s unexpected 2-1 loss to Benin on Monday, a result that strategically benefits Bafana Bafana. With Nigeria previously considered the main competitor for the top spot, this development increases South Africa’s chances of leading the group.
“We are obviously going to prepare well and accordingly. We set ourselves a target for this camp, it’s six points, and so far, we know what we need to do to reach our targets,” he asserted, highlighting the team’s commitment to triumph.
This match against Zimbabwe will be Williams’ 35th appearance for Bafana Bafana since he made his debut against Brazil in 2014.
