Banyana Banyana Prelim Squad Announced For 2025 Women’s AFCON
Banyana Banyana coach Desiree Ellis has announced a preliminary squad for the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, set to take place in Morocco in July.
The initial 46-player squad will be trimmed to a more manageable size before the tournament begins. Ellis is ensuring ample time for replacements, should any players withdraw at the last minute.
The squad includes key stars such as Andile Dlamini, Kaylin Swart, Lebogang Ramalepe, Bambanani Mbane, Linda Motlhalo, Refiloe Jane, Kholosa Biyana, Nomvula Kgaole, Thembi Kgatlana, Jermaine Seoposenwe, and Hilda Magaia.
These players were instrumental when Banyana Banyana clinched their first WAFCON title in 2022, also held in Morocco.
Notably, Kgatlana sustained a foot injury during the group stages of the 2022 tournament and was subsequently ruled out for the remainder of that season. However, Seoposenwe and Magaia stepped up to handle the scoring duties, with Seoposenwe netting two goals in the final to defeat host nation Morocco.
This year’s tournament will be staged in the North African country from 5-26 July.
