Baroka Part Ways With Mammila

Sportswire has learned that Baroka FC has parted ways with coach Morgan Mammila. The official announcement is expected to be made on Monday.

According to sources, Mammila met with Baroka officials on Sunday night to discuss the way forward, which led to the mutual termination of his relationship.

Mammila was appointed as Baroka’s caretaker coach during the PSL promotion/relegation playoffs last season, replacing Dan Malesela.

Mammila took charge of Baroka after they finished third in the Motsepe Foundation Championship under Malesela. Despite securing a draw against Richards Bay in his first match as caretaker in the mini league, Baroka was heavily defeated by the Natal Rich Boyz in the return leg, resulting another stay in the Motsepe Foundation Championship this season.

Mammila was subsequently appointed as Baroka’s full-time head coach at the beginning of this season. However, the team has struggled, with one draw and one loss in their first two matches. They have conceded five goals while scoring only two.

Mammila had previously expressed his ambition to lead Baroka back to the top flight, stating that 60 points would be necessary to achieve promotion. However, the team’s poor start has left them near the bottom of the Motsepe Foundation Championship and cost him the job.

Baroka chairman Khurishi Mphahlele remains determined to see the club return to the top flight. The team was relegated from the Betway Premiership at the end of the 2021/22 season.
