Bay Confirm Macuphu Signing And Zothwane’s Arrival

Richards Bay co-coach Ronnie Gabriel has confirmed the signing of veteran striker Mxolisi Macuphu from Royal AM.
Macuphu was recently released by Royal AM due to salary disputes following the seizure of the club’s assets by the South African Revenue Service (SARS). This action was taken against club president Shauwn “MaMkhize” Mkhize.
The seizure of assets, which included the freezing of the club’s accounts, led to the postponement of their league match against Chippa United earlier this month. However, salaries have since been paid by the club, and normalcy has resumed.
The freezing of MaMkhize’s accounts left players uncertain about their futures. Macuphu took advantage of the situation to terminate his contract with Royal AM and has now found a new home at another KwaZulu-Natal side.
“Yes, we have signed Macuphu,” Gabriel confirmed at a Nedbank Cup press conference in Durban on Wednesday.
Macuphu, who joined Royal AM from TS Galaxy in the second half of the 2021/22 season, scored nine goals in 66 matches across all competitions for the KwaZulu-Natal side.
Gabriel also confirmed the appointment of Papi Zothwane as a co-coach. This appointment was previously reported by Sportswire.
Zothwane joins the club after departing from struggling side Magesi FC.
Richards Bay are preparing to host Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup Last 32 at King Zwelithini Stadium on Sunday at 15:00.
