City Bolsters Coaching Staff With Former Bafana Bafana Star

KwaZulu-Natal side Durban City coach Simo Dladla has confirmed the arrival of former Bafana Bafana midfielder Macbeth Sibaya to the club’s coaching staff.
This marks a reunion of sorts for Dladla and Sibaya, who previously worked together at Real Kings and Black Leopards in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
During his illustrious playing career, the 47-year-old Sibaya achieved significant success, winning two league titles and a Super Cup with Rubin Kazan in Russia. Notably, he was part of the Kazan side that stunned Barcelona in a UEFA Champions League group stage match at the Camp Nou in the 2009/10 season.
Sibaya also enjoyed success in the PSL, winning the MTN8 with Moroka Swallows in the 2012/13 season with a victory over SuperSport United at Orlando Stadium.
“We have also brought in Macbeth Sibaya, whom we all know,” Dladla stated at a Nedbank Cup press conference on Wednesday in Durban.
“He will play a crucial role, particularly when we travel. He will remain with the players who stay behind, ensuring they maintain peak physical and mental condition,” Dladla added.
Sibaya earned 62 caps for Bafana Bafana and was a key member of the squad that finished fourth in the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup and participated in the 2010 FIFA World Cup, where South Africa unfortunately exited in the group stage.
The arrival of Sibaya provides a significant boost to Durban City, who are currently vying for promotion at the end of the season.
City, rebranded from Maritzburg United during the off-season following a dispute with Msunduzi Municipality, currently top the Motsepe Foundation Championship table with 31 points after 16 matches, one point ahead of second-placed JDR Stars.
The club’s next fixture is in the Nedbank Cup Round of 32 against Lerumo Lions at Olympia Park Stadium on Saturday.
