Billiat Off The Mark As Ambitious Scottland Drop Points

Former Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns talisman Khama Billiat scored his first goal of the 2024/25 Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League campaign in a 1-1 draw against his former club Yadah FC at Rufaro Stadium on Saturday.

Following the stalemate, newly promoted Scottland moved up to second place with 11 points picked up after six league outings. The rookies trail the 2022/23 Zimbabwean champions Ngezi Platinum Stars by two points.

Meanwhile, the 34-year-old forward endured an indifferent start to the season after missing the opening match against Triangle United due to an injury, delaying him from replicating the top form he displayed last season.

Upon his return to his homeland last year, Billiat instantly became the highest-paid player in the league and duly repaid the faith shown in him by Yadah FC as he scored a staggering 13 goals and provided 11 assists in 26 appearances after months in the wilderness following his departure from Chiefs.

The Stellar performances saw the experienced attacker get recognition, finishing as a second runners-up for the Soccer Star of the Year award but scooping the Fans’ Player of the Year award and ultimately returning to the Zimbabwe national team under Michael Nees, helping them qualify for 2025 AFCON.

However, his stay at Yadah was short-lived as he ditched the club for newcomers Scottland FC, who are captained by Walter Musona – the younger brother of deadly ex-Chiefs star Knowledge Musona, who now plies his trade in Saudi Arabia with Al-Akhdoud.

With an improved pay cheque at his new club that he joined in January this year, Billiat has so far managed to make two goal contributions with a goal and as many assists. It remains to be seen whether the 2016 CAF Inter-Club Player of the Year runner-up can maintain the momentum.
