Boks Veteran Commits To The Stormers

DHL Stormers has confirmed that stalwart Deon Fourie has signed a one-year contract extension and will be available to play from the beginning of next season.

The dynamic utility forward currently boasts 132 DHL Stormers caps, placing him fourth on the team’s all-time list. He trails only Steven Kitshoff (138), Frans Malherbe (152), and Brok Harris (170) in appearances.

Despite recently sustaining a leg injury during the Vodacom United Rugby Championship victory against Connacht, Fourie is expected to make a full recovery before the start of the next season. He will be ready to bring his impactful presence to the side of the scrum once again.

Director of Rugby John Dobson highlighted Fourie’s characteristic attitude and determination in facing this latest setback.

“Deon is a true warrior and still has a significant contribution to make for us next season, both on the field and in terms of his leadership.

“He is a remarkable player who has done so much for this team over the years, and we know that he will give all he has characteristically when he returns next season,” he said.

Fourie expressed his frustration at missing the crucial end stages of the current season but affirmed his readiness to give his all for the team next season.

“Injuries are part of the game, and luckily, this one was not as severe as it could have been. I’ll get right behind the boys as they head towards the play-offs and then focus on recovery and making as big an impact as I can next season,” said Fourie, who stepped it up to play at a hooker role in the 2023 World Cup final against New Zealand after Bongi Mbonambi picked a bad knee injury.

“Playing for this team means a lot to me and you can be sure that I’ll be giving all I can and making the most of every chance I get to pull that jersey on next season,” he said.
