Breaking: Royal AM Confirms Player Salaries Paid, Resumes Training

Royal AM general manager Richard Makhoba has confirmed to Sportswire that the club has paid its players their December salaries.

The club had faced financial difficulties following the seizure of assets belonging to club owner Shauwn Mkhize by the South African Revenue Service (SARS) in November.

The South African Reserve Service (SARS) even appointed a curator to oversee things at Royal AM, which was acknowledged by President “MaMkhize” in a letter on Wednesday.

This led to a delay in salary payments and the postponement of their Betway Premiership match against Chippa United this weekend.

However, Makhoba confirmed that the salary issue has been resolved, and the club will resume training on Monday to prepare for upcoming fixtures.

“Royal AM players are paid,” Makhoba confirmed. “You can quote me on that as the general manager of the club.”

While Royal AM’s game against Chippa has been postponed which infuriated Chippa management, the next games against Orlando Pirates and the Nedbank Cup round of 32 will be played by the club, assured Makhoba.

“Pirates game at Harry Gwala Stadium (on 22 January) and the Nedbank Cup and we don’t know who we are picking on Monday night, we will play those matches,” said Makhoba.

Makhoba expressed frustration with reports suggesting that some players were seeking clearances to leave the club during the January transfer window.

“Contrary to other stories that my players are wants clearance, that is nonsense,” said Makhoba.

“No player wants a clearance and players are paid as I speak to you. Let me reiterate this to you, players are paid and it is business as usual at Royal AM and players will start training on Monday morning.”
