Broos To Announce Bafana’s World Cup Squad
Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos will unveil a preliminary squad in the coming days for their upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers next month.
The final 23-man roster will be announced later in May, following the conclusion of the DStv Premiership season.
While the final DStv Premiership games are scheduled for 25 May, Mamelodi Sundowns’ rescheduled match against TS Galaxy will take place on 28 May at Mbombela Stadium. The Nedbank Cup final, initially conflicting with the FIFA calendar, has also been shifted to Mbombela Stadium on 1 June, featuring Sundowns and Orlando Pirates.
Bafana Bafana’s qualifying campaign kicks off with an away fixture against Nigeria on 7 June. They will then return home to host Zimbabwe at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein on 11 June. The kickoff time for the home game has been confirmed for (18h00).
SAFA CEO Lydia Monyepao acknowledges the non-ideal kickoff time but emphasizes the importance of fan support. “We wanted the game to kick off at 19h30 because this is the traditional start of late matches in South Africa, and given that it is a midweek match, it accommodates those who are coming from work and have other engagements,” she said.
Gates for the June 11th match open at 15h00. Ticket prices are R50.00 for adults and R20.00 for children, scholars, and students (with proper ID). Tickets are available at various outlets including TicketPro, Spar, SuperSpar, Putco, and Postnet.
Bafana Bafana currently sit second in Group C with three points after two matches, one point behind surprise leaders Rwanda. Nigeria and Zimbabwe are tied for third with two points each, followed by Benin at the bottom with one point.
