Bvuma Eyes Victory On Chiefs Big Day Against Stellies

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma has emphasized the importance of getting back to winning ways when they host Stellenbosch on Wednesday following a loss to Cape Town City during the weekend.
The Phefeni Glamour Boys will play their first home game of the year against Stellenbosch at FNB Stadium on Wednesday (19:30), and this will be the second match of the year for them as they lost to another Cape Town-based side Cape Town City on Sunday.
It should be a day of celebration as the club would be commemorating 55 years of existence since it was formed by chairman Kaizer Motaung.
Bvuma admits that they cannot afford to lose to Stellies, who are a dangerous side under coach Steve Barker.
“A big game tomorrow [Wednesday], we are playing against a very good side, Stellenbosch, and we know that they’ve been doing well for themselves,” Bvuma said on Tuesday.
“Yes, we are coming from a loss [against Cape Town City] but we know as a team that we need to perform to win the game. We know the importance of this game, so we are looking forward to it.”
The Kaizer Chiefs academy graduate, who sees his contract expire at the end of 2026, added that there’s always pressure and scrutiny of playing for a big team like Chiefs, but he is happy to have another chance to play since he was sidelined at the beginning of the season.
“The pressure has been always there whether we are winning or losing,” Bvuma added, who is battling for a starting spot in goals with Fiacre Ntwari and Brandon Petersen.
“I knew before coming to this club that there’s always pressure playing for Chiefs and every player knows that there’s pressure playing for Chiefs. So, this is something that we all have to find a way of handling it.
“I’m also happy that I’m playing again, so I had to work hard, and wait for my opportunity to come. It doesn’t make things easier when we are losing and obvious when I’m conceding.
“But it’s part of the game. The pressure doesn’t get out to me because I’ve been here I know things work, and also I just have to keep on working hard and working well as a team.”
Throughout his career, Bvuma has abided with his time and has just featured in 59 matches in all competitions.
This season the 29-year-old has played three games – conceding two goals along with one clean sheet.
