CAF Secures Record 20 European Broadcast Deals For AFCON

The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) has announced a record-breaking 20 media rights partnerships across more than 30 European territories for the upcoming CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025.

This landmark achievement ensures unprecedented visibility and accessibility, bringing the tournament to millions of football fans across Europe.

The CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 will kick off on Sunday, 21 December, with Bafana Bafana opening Group B against Angola in Marrakech on Monday.

This historic number of broadcast partnerships across Europe underlines the growing global appeal and commercial strength of the CAF Africa Cup of Nations, as well as the continued rise of African football on the world stage.

AFCON Morocco 2025 will showcase the very best of African football talent and passion. The expanded broadcast footprint ensures that millions of fans across Europe — including Africa’s vast diaspora — will be able to experience the tournament live. These agreements represent a significant milestone in CAF’s strategy to enhance the reach, visibility, and value of African football worldwide.

Building on the landmark deal with Channel 4 in the United Kingdom — which marks the first time all 52 AFCON matches will be broadcast free-to-air in the UK — CAF has also secured a new agreement in Spain with leading broadcaster Movistar.

The move to one of Spain’s premier sports broadcasters, combined with the country’s strong Moroccan diaspora and deep footballing ties with Africa, is expected to generate substantial viewership and engagement.

In another major development, CAF has reached a new agreement with free-to-air broadcaster ERT, bringing AFCON back to Greek television screens with nationwide coverage for the first time in many years. Additionally, AFCON Morocco 2025 will be broadcast free-to-air in Norway for the first time through a new deal with VGTV.

Broadcasters such as Sport Italia and Ziggo Sport, which delivered strong viewership in Italy and the Netherlands during the previous AFCON, are expected to drive even greater audience growth. This is further supported by large Moroccan communities in both countries and the presence of several Moroccan stars in the Eredivisie.

SportDigital is also set to continue delivering strong viewership across the DACH region, covering Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
