Campbell Nets To Continue Dazzling Form

South African under-20 national team star Shandre Campbell continued to impress as he was on target in Club NXT’s comfortable 3-0 victory over Jong Genk in the First Division B at Stadion Schiervelde on Friday night.

The 19-year-old winger picked up from where he left off, making it two goals in as many games with an opening goal. So far, Campbell has scored eight goals and provided two assists in 17 Challenger Pro League appearances.

Campbell is now the club’s outright top goal scorer in the league, edging teammates Lenn De Smet and Lynnt Audoor, who both have scored seven goals in what is his debut season following his transfer from SuperSport United in July 2024.

With the win, the youth academy of Belgian giants Club Brugge is in sixth place – a promotion playoff spot. Club NXT has accumulated 40 points in 25 league outings, and is 13 points behind log leaders RWD Molenbeek.

Meanwhile, the stellar performances have earned the Matsatsantsa academy product a first-team call-up which saw him make his senior Brugge debut in February, coming off the bench in the 85th minute against St. Truiden.

Furthermore, the starlet has notably been included in the Belgian champions’ UEFA Champions League squad across the two round of 16 legs against English Premier League outfit Aston Villa, but he never played any part in the matches.

However, Brugge was sent packing by Unai Emery’s side after succumbing to a 3-1 victory at home before being subjected to a 3-0 defeat at Villa Park on Wednesday to make it 6-1 on aggregate with Marco Asensio orchestrating the downfall with three goals both home and away.

Now, the team will turn its focus to the Belgian First Division where they will be seeking a morale boosting victory after crashing out of Europe. Brugge will host Charleroi on Sunday in a bid to tighten their grip on the top spot and increase their 65 points tally.
