Cardoso Brushes Off Questions About His Job Security

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso brushed off the question about whether the Betway Premiership goalless draw against Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium on Wednesday saved his job.
Sundowns currently occupy position three with eight points after four games, having won two games and drawn two games.
Cardoso’s side started this season with inconsistency, intensified by the loss in the MTN8 semi-final to Orlando Pirates on Saturday.
When asked if he thinks the draw saved his job, Cardoso responded: “Next question, please, next question. Don’t joke with me, sir, please.”
Cardoso has also demanded respect for the work that they have done with the club, while also noting that the absence of Lucas Ribeiro, Khuliso Mudau, who were part of the FIFA Club World Cup, is a contributing factor impacting the performance of the team.
“Part of the past was also done by me, with the players since I arrived. I remember that this club for 10 years didn’t arrive in the final of CAF Champions League, and we did it, and we kept winning the championship, and we broke all the records in the PSL,” said Cardoso.
“I think except one, so this is respect that was done also for the work people that arrived in the club, not just the ones that were here, everybody works hard every day, and we demand respect for the work we did. Because this is also the trust that we have inside the club, because there is a big commitment, a big trust between everybody inside Mamelodi Sundowns.
“And it’s important to understand that everybody wants to win every match, but no team wins every match. And if you’re really fair to the people that work in Mamelodi Sundowns, to the coaching staff, to the technical department, to the sport director, you will understand that the team that played the World Cup is not the same team that is playing now because the impact of the players that are absence is so big in the team that we need to rebuild.”
Amasandawana will now shift their focus to the clash against a tricky side of Stellenbosch at Athlone Stadium on Saturday.
