Chiefs Charged R150ks By The PSL

Kaizer Chiefs has been fined R150,000 by the PSL for spectator misconduct during their match against Mamelodi Sundowns.

The club was found guilty of fans throwing missiles onto the field at FNB Stadium on 28 September.

This R150,000 fine includes a previous charge of R100,000 and R50000 suspended from last season when similar incidents occurred under the management of Cavin Johnson.

“I hereby confirm that earlier this morning Kaizer Chiefs football club appeared before the DC to answer charges of spectator misbehaviour,” said PSL prosecutor Zola Majavu on Thursday.

“As a missile throwing incident on the 28 September when they were fixtured against Mamelodi Sundowns, they pleaded guilty and they were fined monetary of R100,000 of which R50,000 is suspended on condition that during the period of suspension which is up to end of the season, they are not found guilty of the similar offense.

“Last season, they still had an outstanding and suspended fine of R100,000 from a similar offence. Effectively, it means now they were convicted for this new offence, they will now pay an additional R100,000 which was previously suspended.

“In total, Kaizer Chiefs will pay effectively R150,000 plus the cost of the sitting of today (Thursday) which are usually administratively computored by the league and added to the R150,000 fine.”

The match between Chiefs and Sundowns was a highly contested affair, with several controversial decisions made by referee Skhumbuzo Gasa. Sundowns scored the winning goal through Iqraam Rayners, but the goal was disputed due to an offside.

Chiefs fans reacted angrily to the decision, throwing missiles onto the field.

In the closing minutes, Chiefs were denied an equalizer when Edson Castillo’s goal was disallowed for a foul by Inacio Miguel. This decision further fueled the discontent among Chiefs supporters. Missiles were also thrown to Gasa when he was reaching the tunnel after he blew the final whistle.
