Reisinho Departs Chloorkop After Single Season

Mamelodi Sundowns has confirmed the departure of Portuguese midfielder Miguel Reisinho, bringing an expected end to an underwhelming spell at Chloorkop.

The 27-year-old left-footed attacking midfielder arrived at Sundowns in August last year from Portuguese outfit Boavista. He signed alongside Nuno Santos—who joined from Vitória Guimarães—to reunite with countryman and Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso.

Reisinho endured a disastrous start to life in South Africa when he was sent off just minutes into his Premier Soccer League debut during a Carling Knockout round-of-16 tie against Marumo Gallants.

Despite that early setback, the former Boavista playmaker went on to make 14 appearances and score two goals across all competitions. Initially viewed as a potential successor or dynamic alternative to Lucas Ribeiro Costa, Reisinho struggled to nail down a permanent starting berth.

His final appearance for the Brazilians came in April during a 2-0 Nedbank Cup round-of-16 defeat to TS Galaxy. Although he failed to feature during the final stretch of the campaign, Reisinho leaves Chloorkop with a prestigious CAF Champions League winner’s medal following Sundowns’ continental triumph last season.
