Chiefs Confirm Matlou Departure As Contract Expires

Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed that they have parted ways with attacking midfielder George Matlou after deciding not to renew his contract.

Matlou joined Amakhosi four years ago from Moroka Swallows and made 46 appearances across all competitions, contributing three assists during his time at the club.

Although the 27-year-old did not score a goal for Chiefs, he leaves with a major achievement to his name after helping the club lift the Nedbank Cup during the 2024/25 season.

This past season, in which Chiefs finished third in the league, Matlou featured in only six matches.

“After four seasons with Kaizer Chiefs, George Matlou’s contract will not be renewed when it expires at the end of June 2026,” the club said in a statement.

“The 27-year-old attacking midfielder joined the Glamour Boys from Swallows FC in July 2022 and played an important role in the squad that lifted the Nedbank Cup during the 2024/25 season.

“We thank George for his commitment and contribution to Amakhosi and wish him well in his future career.”
