Chiefs Start DDC With A Win

Kaizer Chiefs kicked off the 2024/25 DStv Diski Challenge season with a positive result on Sunday. The Soweto giants defeated two-time champions Golden Arrows 2-0 at King Zwelithini Stadium.
Naledi Hlongwane and Pheko Phago scored the goals for Chiefs. Hlongwane capitalized on Arrows’ defensive lapse, while Phago finished off a well-executed passing combination.
Dillion Sheppard, who was Chiefs’ assistant coach last season, took charge of the team in the absence of reserve league coach Vela Khumalo, who was away on international duty. Khumalo’s absence was hardly felt as Chiefs dominated the match, with Arrows offering little resistance.
Chiefs’ performance was much improved compared to last season’s opening draw against rivals Orlando Pirates. They deservedly secured the three points, controlling the majority of the game.
Arrows goalkeeper Junior Mpanza made several crucial saves, including one from Theto Mohale. Chiefs’ goalkeeper Takalani Mazhamba also made a vital save to deny Samkelo Mlaba.
In an earlier match, Polokwane City drew 0-0 with SuperSport United, despite United playing most of the game with a player down. Tisha Khonyane was sent off for a deserved red card.
