Vilakazi: I Made History For Richards Bay
Coach Vusi Vilakazi says he will go down in the history books of Richards Bay because he saved the club from relegation zone last season.
Vilakazi was asked by Sportswire if coaching AmaZulu reserve side gives him another short to show people how good coach he is, after he was let go by Bay in a dramatic fashion that was blurring from distance.
The former Golden Arrows coach, who saved Bay from relegation last season via the PSL promotion playoffs, joined AmaZulu just weeks after he was let go.
His new side AmaZulu drew with Orlando Pirates in the first game of the 2024/25 season of the DStv Diski Challenge at King Zwelithini Stadium on Saturday.
“No, no, no,” said Vilakazi after the game when he was asked by Sportswire.
“Point to prove to who? I don’t think I take this as a point to prove. I’m happy for my stay at Richards Bay.
“We are talking right now, not about Richards Bay, I’m in the map of Richards Bay because I saved them.
“So, that is an impact that I have made in my coaching career. So, I have a new assignment here which is focusing on making sure that I produce more players for the senior team of AmaZulu and that is the focus right now. Other things will come.”
Vilakazi has since been replaced by Brandon Truter at Richards Bay, who their reserve side was hammered 3-0 by Mamelodi Sundowns at King Zwelithini Stadium on Saturday’s second game.
Usuthu appointed Vilakazi following their disappointment of last term in the DDC where they finished third from bottom under coach Andile Cele and Reneilwe Letsholonyane, who was let go midway last season.
“I’m not going to be here long anyway and I’m going somewhere,” Kanu threw a warning to AmaZulu and fans alike, as he has an established coach in the DDC having won the reserve league twice with Golden Arrows in the past.
