Chiefs Target Named Spurs Captain
Cape Town Spurs coach Ernst Middendorp has appointed Kaizer Chiefs target Asanele Velebhayi as the club captain.
Spurs previously rejected two offers from Chiefs for Velebhayi, deeming them insufficient. On the final day of the PSL transfer window on Friday, Chiefs renewed their interest in the attacking midfielder but ultimately failed to secure his services.
“Coach Ernst Middendorp’s decision to appoint Asanele Velebayi as the new club captain is an indication of the trust, he has in him as a player and person. We wish Asanele much success,” said Spurs in a statement.
During the transfer window, Spurs lost Chumani Butsaka and Ashley Cupido to Stellenbosch FC.
The 21-year-old Velebhayi, who has played in all three Motsepe Foundation matches this season, will lead the team as they face Hungry Lions at Athlone Stadium on Monday at 3:00 PM.
