Arrows Maintain Top Spot As They Beat Gallants

Golden Arrows extended their winning streak in the Betway Premiership to two matches, defeating Marumo Gallants 2-0 at Mpumalanga Stadium on Saturday.

The home side dominated the first half, scoring twice through Knox Mutizwa and Nduduzo Sibiya. Despite numerous chances, Arrows were unable to further extend their lead.

Arrows’ impressive defensive display, highlighted by another clean sheet, pleased their coaching trio of Mabhuti Khenyeza, Kagiso Dikgacoi, and Musa Bilankulu. The team entered the match with a 2-0 midweek victory over Stellenbosch FC, while Gallants had suffered a loss to Kaizer Chiefs.

Gallants had a penalty claim denied in the 13th minute when Sekela Sithole was adjudged to have dived in the box. Vusi Sibiya came close to scoring for Gallants but saw his header hit the upright. Despite creating multiple chances, Gallants were unable to capitalize, leaving coach Dan Malesela frustrated.

Arrows struggled to cope with Gallants’ high-tempo style of play and spent much of the match defending. However, they were able to strike effectively on the counter-attack. Mutizwa, Arrows’ all-time leading scorer, opened the scoring in the 40th minute with a well-taken finish.

His goal marked his 61st in the PSL for Arrows, an impressive achievement considering he joined the club in the second half of the 2016/17 season.

Arrows continued their dominance in the first half, with Sibiya doubling their lead just before halftime. Despite further chances, Arrows were unable to extend their advantage.

In another match played on Saturday, Magesi FC suffered a 2-0 defeat to Polokwane City in the Limpopo Derby.
